Pandemic and the God Who Cares

On Saturday 22 January, Canon Dr Medhat Sabry, Chaplain at St George's Anglican Church in Madrid, led a morning of theological sessions focussing on 'Pain and Suffering' in the light of the pandemic and the difficult times that many people have been through over the last 2 years.

The morning was split into 3 sessions:

  • Medhat led the opening session which set the scene and looked at the effects of the pandemic
  • Dr Clare Amos, formerly with the World Council of Churches, took a session on Old Testament Perspectives on Pain and Suffering
  • Archbishop Dr Samy Shehata, Deputy Archbishop of the Diocese of Egypt and the Bishop of North Africa, ended the morning with a session on how the Early Church Fathers Responded to Pain, Suffering and Persecution.

We would like to share these sessions with you and hope that you will find them informative and thought-provoking. We will add one session each week for 3 weeks to give you a chance to listen to them, with some time for reflection.

There are powerpoints for the second and third sessions, and recordings for all 3 sessions. Please click on the titles of the sessions to play the video recording.
